     Powerlifting

Competitive powerlifting is a very unique sport. Because of it's unique requirements it is different from Olympic lifting, strong man events and bodybuilding. The competitive nature of the sport, the type of equipment that can be used according to the rules, and how the lifts are to be performed according to the rules thereby makes competitive powerlifitng far different from the fore-mentioned, normal weight training or training for other sports. To elaborate: the various lifting suits and shirts, belts and wraps must be understood and the use of them needs to be incorporated into a program.

Because maximal weights are lifted at competitons, not only the issues of physical peaking but also the psychological and mental aspects must be properly understood. The physical and mental demands of competitive powerlifting are great and it is necessary to understand the types of stresses that must be undertaken and how to properly prepare for these on a short and long term basis. I believe that professional education in biomechanics, exercise physiology, physiology and anatomy and sport psychology are helpfull and in this area I am professionally accredited as well. But I also have found that educational institutions lack in ability to teach and pass on really excellent and up-to-date methodology. There are some other avenues such as books, internet, etc. but they are overly simplistic and generalized to a great degree and do not provide an individualistic approach or a program that is completley tailored to an athlete at the exact level where they are at and therefore can not take an athlete with maximum effeciency to being the best that they can be.

There is no replacement like real life experience for the realities of this sport and to strength training in general --- and not short term realities but the long, hard earned and hard endured truths, ideas and concepts and what not only what can be done but what must be done. I believe good coaches, not only in our sport but in all sports, can "bring it all" and have proven systems. Marry education and years of experience and thoughtfull application and develop a proficient coaching system and programs. To all of this I have dedicated my life since 1968. I feel I know what competitive powerlifters want and need in all areas. My life experiences have taught me not only how to deliver but also how to successfully interact with lifters and athletes from the beginner level to World Champion level.
