Some of today's Top Powerlifters speak out on how Dennis Dickau
has helped them to succeed.

Michael Knott
I have been involved in several sports through-out my life. At the age of 40 I started with Powerlifting and was doing pretty good, but as most people do, I was over training and not making the improvements I should. I was stuck at a 215 Kg Squat, and 175 Kg Benchpress. After working with Shawn O’Halloran, he introduced me to Dennis Dickau. I started with Dennis about a year ago to work on my Benchpress, and 6 months ago on my Squat and Deadlift to help improve my lifting ability. Now at 49, with Dennis’s help I am making great gains and keep getting stronger. With Dennis’s help I am on my way to a 250 Kg squat and working towards 275, and 210 Kg Benchpress working towards 227.5 Kg. I have learned that it is hard to train yourself as you tend to over train. With Dennis’s program, it has helped me to keep on track and not over do things.

Gunnar Henriksson
My name is Gunnar Henriksson and I'm 53 years old. I've been lifting off and on all my life and I've always wanted to get back into powerlifting competitively but I was always nervous and never felt I was good enough and lastly I never knew how.
I have known Dennis for years and one day in November of 2006 we were having lunch and Dennis asked me if I had ever checked out the Alberta or Canadian powerlifting websites. I didn't even know they existed so when I got home I checked them out.
When I checked out the records on the Alberta site I discovered that there was a separate division for 50 year olds called masters 2. When I saw that the record for squats in the 125kg class was 175kg and at the time I was doing around 145 kg I got excited.
I phoned Dennis right away and asked him if he could coach me and help me take a run at the record. Dennis didn't think I was serious and it took me all of December and January to show him I was serious. Finally on Feb of 2007 he agreed to coach me and the results have been incredible.
I have learned more about powerlifting that I never knew before, like how to wrap my knees, how to train on a 4 day/week schedule, etc.
On June 30th 2007 in Pincher Creek at the provincials Dennis convinced me to enter and we were fortunate enough to set a new squat record of 177.5 kg which we have since raised to 195 kg.
On Feb 23rd 2008 at the University of Alberta we were able to set a new deadlift record of 201 kg. I know I never could have done this without Dennis. He encourages you, motivates you, helps you deal with injuries and mostly is so proud of you when you accomplish your goals.
With Dennis's help I am shooting for the total record in Alberta and along the way am looking to qualify for the nationals. I know without a doubt that with Dennis coaching and with time this will all happen. Dennis gets results for you, all you have to do is do the work.
Decide what you want to accomplish and Dennis will get you there.

"I have never been a competative Power Lifter. I have trained with weights on and off since I was 14 years old. Most of the routines I had used were from magazines and most recently from internet sources. Needless to say I was over trained and over sour.
By age 46 I could bench press 350lbs., raw. But after knee injuries this limited any other training. I had pretty much given up on getting past 350lbs., getting sore shoulders and elbows as it was taking out the fun of my training.
Through numerous searches I found a web site. " Launch Pad Systems" After several emails outlining my goals and dreams I had found friend and coach in Dennis Dickau.
Dennis has taken my stalled progress and turned pain back into pleasure. My 350lbs. max in June 2006, became 385lbs. in November 2006. Recently with Dennis's encouragement I have attended several powerlifting competitions as a spectator and now look forward to competing in 2007.
I would highly recommend that anyone who wants to improve their performance in competitive power lifting or just getting a personal best in thier gym seek the help that Dennis has to offer. With Dennis extensive knowledge in physical and mental training,my training has become more focused and my workouts have became fun to do again.
I no longer have sore shoulders or elbows and I train more now than I have in the past 5 years. I look forward to setting and reaching new goals with Dennis's proven methods.

"Being a Master III, I was becoming somewhat complacent, using my age as an excuse not to make gains. Dennis changed all of that. Within ten months he had me squatting for reps a weight I had NEVER obtained even at the peak of a program. My competition bench was also a PR, and total in Chilliwack, my best in over 4 years.
Dennis managed this entirely over the NET. There is little that I can add to what others have already said, but I can wholeheartedly agree with their comments. Dennis exudes the self confidence of a coach without the ego AND he is willing to listen. He has modified my workout with minimal notice. In a word, Dennis and his program are infectious. I can't think of a better endorsement.

"If you're looking to get stronger, then you have come to the right place. I have worked with Dennis and have made significant gains in strength, which enabled me to win an I.P.F. World Masters Championships in 2003. He has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to training elite athletes and powerlifters. He knows how to make you stronger and develops ever-changing programs to meet your goals. In a sport where strength is built slowly, take the time and try his training methods, you willl not be disappointed."
Accomplishments: 2003 Masters 1 world champion 110kg class. Second highest Wilks in World for Masters 1. Masters 1-110 kg class World Record deadlift holder. Won 10 consecutive CPU National titles. Set over 30 CPU National Records since 1996. Named CPU Athlete of the Year for 3 years. Named PEI Male Athlete of the Year for all sports for 2003 and 2005.

Shawn O'Halloran
"I’m 40 years old and have been training since age 14 non stop, up until very recently my best raw bench was 555 lbs and that was at age 28, Dennis took me from a 530 raw bench before we teamed up to a 585 in less than 2 months and allowed me to reach my life long goal and for this I thank him. Unfortunately for him I won’t stop quit hounding him until we hit our new goal of 610 RAW. Dennis is a great friend and certainly the most motivating coach I have ever had and I’ve played every sport from lacrosse to judo. With Dennis on your side you can’t help but strive to not only be one of the best in Canada but to look further onto an international scale.
Accomplishments:
I’ve only been lifting competitively for 2 years so not that much to report.
2003 Provincial best bencher
2004 Provincial & National best bencher
2005 National best bencher
2006 IPF Master Bench Worlds - 2nd place
2006 IPF Open Bench Worlds - 2nd place
I currently hold the 125 IPF Master 1 Bench Only World Record and the IPF 125 & SHW world record in the bench press in the full power lifting meet. I have set over 20 national records in the past 24 months.
I look forward to making gains and accomplishments with Dennis in the very near future and if you are looking to improve your training I would recommend Dennis to all."

"I have always had a big bench press through out my weightlifting training. I had taken this strength into powerlifting and had good success but I reached a point where the improvements had slowly. I contracted Dennis and immediately started to see big improvements in in bench press. The programs got me stronger but also saw an improvement in the consistency of my competition lifts. With the encouragement that Dennis shows you, it is not difficult to want to do the routine. He is not only your coach, he is also your number one fan. He is the number one reason for the success that I see today.
Thanks Dennis"

"Can you say, ENTHUSIASM? Dennis Dickau has been my coach for a short period of time, but we've accomplished a few things together in the short months we've known each other, including Junior National records in the squat (320 kg), bench press (237.5 kg), and total (817.5 kg) in the 110 kg weight class. I began training with him in my last year of Junior eligibility in the CPU, and we were under a time crunch to get those attempts in a meet, and he made it happen, each and every time he was 100 times more excited than I was to see those lifts get white lights! Not only is he extremely knowledgeable about the sport having been an elite lifter himself in the past, but he loves powerlifting and coaching more than anyone I've even heard of. And believe me, this guy knows his stuff.
I've been training with Dennis for less than a year as of this writing, (since the summer of 2004), and in that small amount of time, he was able to improve my lifts to such an extent that he helped me become the #1 Jr. powerlifter in Canada. He was able to latch on to that certain something he saw in me as a lifter and was able to exploit it so that I could reach the type of numbers I'm lifting today, and the best part is, I'm continually making gains in every lift with is help. Dennis is so good at tweaking the numbers and changing them based on how I'm feeling from week to week that he's taken me from a 628 squat, 440 bench press, 617 deadlift, and a 1686 total in the 275 lbs class to these numbers in the 242 lbs class: 727-551-601-1879, a 193 lbs gain on my total and a drop in weight class all in less than a year of training with him. Not only has he made me stronger, but also more consistent and much more intelligent with my attempts in contest. In fact, at the 2005 CPU Nationals I posted a 35 kg personal best in the total even under very stringent conditions. And I guarantee there's much room left on those lifts, with his guidance I know I will reach my very ambitious goals! I have yet to have the kind of meet day I'd like, but Dennis will ensure it happens in the near future, that 9/9 day is nearing!!"

"I started competing in Bench-only contests in 2003, and like most people I was maxing out in the gym way too often before every competition. On game day I was always overtrained, and not hitting my potential maxes. I've lifted weights for 20 years and thought I knew what I was doing. After the 2004 Nationals I emailed Dennis and asked him if I could join his team: I wanted a 400+ bench. 8 months later I had hit my goal in 2 different competitions and I realized what a coach can do for a lifter. When Frank Williams converted me to a 3-lifter last summer, I immediately turned to Dennis for help with my squat and deadlift, too.
Dennis sees the big picture for his lifters in terms of varying the intensity throughout a training cycle and getting the lifter to peak at the right time for a meet. 'Hitting the bullseye' he calls it. He's one of my biggest supporters and is committed to getting every possible kg out of this old Newfie body. His coaching methods are flexible and dynamic and he constantly analyzes my feedback to keep my strength levels trending upwards without overtraining."

Rick Evans
"I started competeing in bench press competitions in 1999 and began powerlifting in 2000. I was fortunate enough to have other lifters take me under their wings and assist me with lifting techniques and training programs. Like most new lifters, I experienced significant strength gains in my first year, but after that all of my lifts began to plateau. Fortunately for me, I trained at the same gym as Lewis Noppers and I saw the success he was having under Dennis Dickau's coaching. I approached Dennis and asked him if he could coach me. After 3 months of Dennis' coaching, my total increased by 57.5kg. My lifts continued to increase and won the 2002 and 2003 CPU Junior Nationals and represented Canada at the 2002 IPF Junior Worlds in Sochi, Russia. Dennis' passion and enthusiasm for powerlifting is contagious. Dennis taught me the importance on self-discipline and believing in myself which has allowed me to achieve my personal goals on and off of the platform."

Kim Dennis
"I was very fortunate to be introduced to Dennis Dickau, and it happened at a very crucial point in my powerlifting career. I had been lifting for six years already, and had even won three National titles, but I was frustrated at the slow gains I was making. I had just competed, and thought that it was time to pack it in. Dennis was at that meet, and convinced me that he would be able to help me improve my lifts, and that my powerlifting career was not over.
It has been almost four years that I have been training with Dennis now and my gains continue. I have won three consecutive National titles, and my total is at an all time high. I have confidence in Dennis' training routines, and enjoy having him take care of that aspect of my training for me. Dennis' enthusiasm and love for the sport of powerlifting is contagious! I have no doubt that Dennis' training can add kilos to anyone's lifts, no matter how experienced the lifter is!"

David Bennett
"I initially sought Dennis' help out of sheer desparation, my lifts were going nowhere and it was very discouraging. I had thoughts of quitting powerlifting for good. Dennis was more than happy to get me started on a program that was designed for me specifically, not some generic program like the ones I had been following. Dennis' commitment to continually updating a lifter's program from feedback he receives truly sets his style apart from ready-made programs.
I firmly believe that training with Dennis can take any powerlifter not only TO their goals, but well beyond. Between May 8th 2004 and October 23rd 2004 Dennis added 35 kilograms to my squat, 22.5 kilograms to my deadlift, and 25 kilograms to my deadlift.
Don't just sit there, contact Dennis today! Your lifting abilities will accelerate at an amazing rate."

Allan Gallant
"As an experienced powerlifter I thought I was past my prime. I was physically and emotionally at my lowest. The most energy I could muster was for two 45 minute workouts a week and my strength was plummeting. I was missing powerlifting terribly and I needed help. I sent a heartfelt letter to Dennis and he never hesitated. Dennis told me that he had looked at my past totals and insisted the best was yet to come. I will admit that at the time, I disagreed with him but it felt great to have someone with a bit of faith in me. And so it started.
Daily emails and updates began pouring into my computer's inbox. Dennis trusted my experience as a veteran powerlifter and used my feedback to tailor the program to suit my daily energy, health and schedule. How many reps could I get with a certain poundage? How did my injuries react to a certain rep/set scheme? Dennis allowed me the flexibility to choose my own assistance work but still gave me sound advice on what he might recommend.
Even when competition time arrived Dennis was there. All I had to do was show up and every single rep, from warm-up to record attempts was crafted based on my training. Dennis still kept an eagle eye on the meet as it progressed and would confer with me as to what we, as a team, felt was a comfortable goal for the next attempt. Again, he would be very open to my input.
Under the guidance of Dennis Dickau I went from a diminishing lifter to a flourishing one. I have won the Canadian Championships, I have finally had my perfect 9 for 9 meet that I had always been looking for , I have added many kilos to my total and most important of all. I have regained a presence in the sport I love. Powerlifting isn't what a person does; it becomes what that person is. Thank you Dennis for giving that back to me."

"I was at a point in my lifting career where no matter what I tried I couldn't seem to make any gains.I had heard of Dennis through other lifters and finally had the opportunty to meet him in at the 2002 Alberta Provincials & Invitational. After to speaking to him I made the decision to sign on as one of his athletes. At first I was a little skeptical but soon realized that he knew how to make me stronger. He tailored my program to fit my lifestyle and was in constant contact to monitor my progress. He is always so positive and passed this on to me. At 39 years of age I thought my strength levels would soon be decreasing. He proved me wrong. One year with Dennis and I was stronger than ever.
It's great to have a person like Dennis who is so passionate about the sport of powerlifting and receives as much enjoyment out of the personal gains I have achieved. Once again....Thank You Dennis."

Jean-Sebastien Rheaume
"My name is Jean-Seabastien and I have been working out for about 12 years. Of course I never had a personal trainer even when I started powerlifting 5 years ago. For about 3 years i worked out by myself listening to people tell me training tricks to get stronger. As any other athlete, when I started I never realised the potential I had considering that my 3 lifts were way higher than the average guys working out in my gym....without coach!! But one day i hit the wall. I travelled all across the Ocean for a World IPF championships in Denmark. I finished last of the 14 lifters (altho I did beat 4 lifters that had bombed out) The 13th place was 20 kg more than me and the 12th was 80kg over me....how can this be after 5 years of powerlifting and 12 years of being in the gym?? In my class at this same competition was another Canadian and he placed 5th and I wanted to know how he had done it and so we started talking. That person was Lewis Noppers and he said he had a coach and that maybe I should talk to his coach for any answers and possibly to enquire about being coached by him. Beyond this, Lewis gave me some great advice; if you start with a coach, trust him!. That day I decided that JS will get this Dennis as a coach...and that day i found my mentor.
Right after my trip back to my home in Quebec, i contacted Dennis in Edmonton. I couldn't imagine though working with a coach living more than 5 hours flight from my place!! But believe it or not he simply changed my life!! My numbers went up by more than 30 kg in 4 months and in 1 year i was up by 80kg!! There is no other reason for this than him. I am still workig out 4 times a week like i did in the past 12 years but the difference is what you do and when. Dennis, my coach, has been a revelation for me. Every time that i'm going for a meet, I know the results will be there. My last major competition was the World's Bench press championship and again I hit PR's. Today, I feel i can battle against people from all around the world...and this I know is only the beginning...wow!!
You have to know that the coach will show you the way, but don't forget that you are the only one who can give good results to the experience. I had just come back from the World Championships in South Africa where i had set a lot of PR's and improved about 80 kg from the year before and a very seasoned lifter noticed my improvement had been dramatic...I can still hear Dennis's words that he has said to me so often...'"you have to have good onions to make good soup"...i promise you if you are good onions he can make great soup!!!"

"What can I say about Dennis? He is amazing! He has got to be the most positive, supportive and enthusiastic person I know and I just love him. I first saw what Dennis could do when I observed the gains that Lewis Noppers and Rick Evans had made from Nationals in 2001 to the July benchpress contest that Kim Dennis put on in July of that year. I asked them how they did it and they said it was their coach, Dennis Dickau. I eventually talked Rick into giving me Dennis's email address and I contacted him. I wanted to get on board!
I was not a young lifter...I had just turned 50 that year. For most women you really notice a decline in your body once you hit 50. I had been lifting since 1990 and felt I had hit a plateau. I did not want to loose strength now that I was 50 so I was hoping Dennis could keep me up there. I had just had an operation and had been off for 6 weeks. Dennis started me back at the gym in Dec. of 2001. That next fall, in Calgary, I had the best meet of my life! At the age of 51 I broke my deadlift record of 142.5 K (314 lb.) that I had set in 1994. I had been trying for 8 years to break that record and the closest I ever came was 140 K (308lb.), and usually it was 137.5 K (303 lb.) that I would get. That year I put my trust in Dennis and I lifted 157.5K (347.5 lb.) I was floored! Never in my life had I imagined that I would be able to lift that...but Dennis did, and he took me there. It is a moment in my life that I will never forget!
I have not been competing since Master's Worlds in 2003. I have taken some time off to try and heal a nagging injury, but am now going to start training again. Dennis has his work cut out for him as I haven't been squatting or deadlifting in over a year and a half. He is an amazing man, and I am again putting myself in his very capable hands. I have missed training with him...his constant interaction, his daily email, his support and belief in me, his humour, his workouts and being a part of the team. I can't wait to get back on board! THANK YOU DENNIS! Your "Grasshopper"
Accomplishments: I currently hold National records in Master 1- 56k class in Benchpress and Total. Master 2 - 56k in Squat, Bench, Deadlift and Total. 60k in Squat, Deadlift and Total. Bench Only Master 1 and 2 in 56K. I have won numerous Nationals and a gold at Masters Worlds 2001 and a Silver at Masters Worlds 2003. I also was named Female Athlete of the Year - 2003."

"I had a goal in Feb/05 to bench 350 raw by the end of the year. With Dennis's help, wisdom, motivation I almost did it in April/05 after only TWO months of training instead of a year!!! My name is Mike Breen and I've been powerlifting for 1 year on and off. Dennis got me started on the right track in 2004 through e-mails and a couple of face to face meetings. This man is so knowledgeable and dedicated to the sport, and his enthusiasm is very contagious. It will drive you to accomplish your personal goals, perhaps faster than you ever thought you could. He's got me convinced I'll be one of the best benchers in the country in the next few years. It might seem like a huge goal to achieve, but with proper training, nutrition and dedication it is possible. Oh yeah, I need to get in a Shirt too!! Dennis can't cook for me (Thank God), but he can certainly get the proper training routines to me and motivational words. His past and present accomplishments are proof of what he can do for people like myself. Looking for an edge over the competition? Dennis is it. In the first week of February I could do 245lbs for 7 reps touch and go. By the end of March I could do 295lbs PAUSED, for 9 reps. That's proof enough. No supplements involved, just good old sweat and a lot of food.

"Keeping fit and strong, specifically, using the exuberant sport of powerlifting, has, for the last three years been a great passion of mine. Thanks to Dennis Dickau's encouragement and enthusiasm, I became quite fond of powerlifting and became actively involved. He took me under his wing and became my coach. Writing my programs daily and monitoring me precisely, I became extremley strong in a short period of time, injury free. The energy and passion that Dennis possesses and bestows upon others makes you feel powerfull. Not to mention that sheer knowledge and experience that comes with 30 odd years in fitness and himself a record holding powerlifter. Every step of the way Dennis was right behind me 110%. Within 15 months of first ever picking up a single weight to lifting at the Canadian powerlifting Championships as a late teenager and in the 75 kg class, I broke the current and set the new Canadian junior squat recored with a 246 kg squat lift and won the silver medal medal at the Canadian Championships. My endorsement goes to Dennis as a superior strength coach."

"My name is Brian Desjarlais and I am 55 years old and have been competing in powerlifting since 1998. Up until i had heard of Dennis, Bench was always my strong lift and Squats and Deadlifts were always kind of in the background. After talking to Dennis he convinced me that we could improve my squats and deadlifts without sacrificing my bench. He was right. I used his coaching service for the first time in preparing for the 2003 CPU Nationals in Winnipeg. I placed third but was encouraged because of my improvement which was 12.5 kg's in 3 months time. After that i continued to use his service and here are some of the past results with his help:
World Police and Fire Games- Barcelona, Spain, 2003...Bench, Silver....Push, pull, Silver
World Masters IPF Championships in Regina, Sask, 2004.... Bench, Silver
Nationals CPU Championships, 2004, Waterloo, Ont.... Gold... improved from Bronze the year before.
Canadian American Police and Fire Games in London, Ontario, 2004 Bench... Gold... improved from Silver the year before Powerlifting....Gold!!!!
Since I first started having Dennis as my coach, my total has improved by more than 30kg, and I believe as well as he does that it will improve even more. I highly recommend Dennis as a coach for anyone."

"When I trained myself, I thought I had reached a near peak in strength. I was strong, but at only 23 years old, I wondered why my gains were stagnating. But then I met Dennis. With Dennis's coaching and his belief in my potential, I put on 15 lbs to my raw bench in little more than 4 months! More than what I could have done in double that time. 350@145lbs raw, and there's room for more.
With my bench on par with some of the best, I have full intentions of rocking IPF World Bench. Dennis will make sure that happens. His genuine enthusiasm as a coach, his love for powerlifting and his desire to help you achieve your goals is what makes him the best.
Thanks Dennis!"

"Do you have a Vision a Dream, Passion?
I met Dennis in August of 99', a meeting of destiny that has changed our lives forever. I didn't know then that a hobby (lifting weights) would allow me to be where I am today. Dennis has the ability to see your future and breaks it down into obtainable goals. I have never completely put my faith into anyone as I do with Dennis. Dennis' vision has allowed me to achieve a level of success I could never imagine. You continue to make my dreams come true. You are my coach, my mentor and most importantly my Friend, thank you.
